Key West Florida Celebrates Latest Hurricane Forecasts For 2014

Exposed as it is in the middle of the Gulf of Mexico, Key West, Florida is dangerously affected by hurricanes. The latest news is letting the residents breathe a sigh of relief.

The official motto of Key West, Florida may be "One Human Family", but one of the unofficial mottos surely has to be that old gem from Yogi Berra: "It ain't over 'til it's over." When it comes to Hurricane season, everybody has a story about that one last storm of the season, the one nobody expected that showed up like an uninvited guest for Thanksgiving dinner and overstayed their welcome. There are still over three months left in the hurricane season of 2014, but the weather models are giving everyone who calls this slice of paradise home a little ray of sunshine.

"We didn't think that this was going to be an active Atlantic storm season to begin with, and so far we've been right," said Casper Jenkins, meteorologist with the National Weather Bureau and stationed in Key West, Florida. "To have gotten this late into the season with only one named storm is certainly a good sign. A better sign is that, based on the warming trends over the Atlantic Ocean and the weather patterns coming off of the Sahara, we may set a new record for fewest storms."

The best sign of a calm hurricane season is the number of tourists that are flocking to the world famous Key West restaurants and bars like the Roof Top Cafe and Sloppy Joe's, and they experience the joy of island vacations on the only Caribbean island a person can drive to. Merchants are all talking about how this has been one of the busiest summers in recent history, and another sure sign that the recession is over for most people is how many couples are visiting the island now specifically to get more information about island weddings, and getting ready to set their big day.

Traditionally, the high summer was the slowest time of the year, but as people become more diligent about seeking out travel bargains, Key West is becoming more creative in how they reward these travelers. By offering special discounts, having various cultural events ranging from a live summer theater series to multi-day fishing tournaments, and of course, creating unique 'hurricane-themed" cocktails, Key West, Florida is showing why America's playground is the perfect place to visit any time of the year.
